Azzalure® - A New Choice

Azzalure® has been given the go ahead by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. As one of only a handful of such products to be approved for the treatment of wrinkles in Europe, it is expected to become a rival to the ever-popular Botox®.

The UK licence comes on the back of the collective authorisation of 15 other European countries, opening it up to the vast potential of this huge market. The UK Corrective and Aesthetic marketplace has been one of the fastest growing in the world, and fuelling much of this growth has been the dramatic rise in the
popularity of botulinum toxin procedures with annual growth rates exceeding 25% per annum.

Azzalure® (botulinum toxin Type A), is specifically developed for aesthetic use and the approval was
based on several clinical trials involving more than 2,600 patients. This new treatment is adapted from
Dysport® (botulinum toxin type-A), which is already marketed by Ipsen for therapeutic indications and
has a 20-year long history of product consistency and safety.

Azzalure® comes in an easy to use formulation with a customised dosage that is specifically designed
to better meet the aesthetic needs of the patient.  The benefits reported include fast onset of action,
long duration of action (up to 5 months) and high level of patient satisfaction.

CODE Association for Facial Aesthetics (CODE AFA) believes that this will be a popular choice amongst practitioners and patients, not least of all
because the single patient dose costs about £64. CODE  AFA has updated the AFA modules on Botulinum
Toxin to include Azzalure®. For more information please contact the CODE office on 01409 254 354
or visit the AFA website.
