CODE AFA to launch Thread Vein Module

Telangiectasia, more commonly known as thread veins affect around 55 percent of the UK adult population - a total of around 15 million people - and so it’s hardly surprising that thread vein removal is a popular cosmetic procedure. They can affect the face, body and legs and tend to occur as the skin thins with age. Thread veins are also linked to pregnancy, and tend to run in families. While harmless, they can cause unsightly blemishes that can lead to embarrassment.

Luckily, thread veins, can be quickly and easily removed in a number of different ways, depending on the patient’s skin type. Removal can entail injections, intense pulsed light or the use of equipment such as the Veinwave which offers relatively painless thermococagulation.

Some patients may experience mild discomfort depending on the size of the vein to be removed. However, practitioners tend to use a local aesthetic cream to numb the area prior to treatment. Treatment takes between half and hour and an hour, and results can be immediate, though thread veins generally require multiple removal treatments to ensure they don’t return. However, there is no recovery time and patients can undertake normal activity immediately after treatment.

If you’re considering adding thread vein removal to the list of treatments that you offer, CODE AFA has a wide range of resources available to members, including background information for patients, and video treatment tutorials. It will also shortly be adding a Thread Vein Module to its offering, including an overview, methods of removal, how to administer treatments, pre and post care requirements, a consent form and aftercare instructions.
