Malar (Bone)

Zygoma or malar is the medical term for the cheek bone.

Malignant Melanoma

Any of the several malignant neoplasms that consist of melanocytes cells. These cells stay in the base layer of the epidermis and help in the production of melanin (skin pigment).

Mandible

The bone that forms the lower jaw.

Marionette Lines

Deep facial lines that emerge from the outer edge of the mouth and go vertical down to the chin. They give an appearance of a puppet's mouth.

Maxilla

Medical name for the upper jaw bone.

Melanin

It is an insoluble pigment that determines the color of the skin in human beings.

Melasma

A tan discoloration on the face, often in the cheek region. It can occur during pregnancy or due to the use of oral contraceptives and other drugs or illnesses.

Milia

A small whitish lump in the facial skin, particularly on the nose and around the eyes. Not to be misunderstood with 'whiteheads.' Milia does not have pore openings like whiteheads.

Mohs Surgery

Developed by Dr. Fredrick E. Mohs. It is a process to treat skin cancer by shaving off cancerous tissues. In this surgery, a single skin layer is peeled at a time.
