False claims that Botox increases risk

Recently, media reports have suggested that new research shows Botulinum Toxin can cause wrinkles. However, the author of the study, Dr David Becker, refutes these claims saying that his comments, published in Cosmetic Dermatology magazine in 2003, were based purely on observation and weren’t the result of clinical trials.

Given that there are more than 4,000 publications supporting both the safety and efficacy of Botulinum Toxin, this scaremongering by the media should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Indeed, in a letter to the Editor of Cosmetic Dermatology, Dr Becker says, "The article was actually just an observation and not a comprehensive study or proof of the effect." Furthermore, he is "…convinced that not only is botulinum toxin therapy safe and effective but that it is also the safest and most effective therapy for most upper facial rhytides."
