Sculptra is a dermal filler/volumiser made from a substance called poly-L-lactic acid. This is a synthetic substance which is made in a laboratory and is biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (breaks down naturally in the body). Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates the body to produce collagen which is responsible for the skin's natural elasticity. Sculptra provides an increase in skin thickness, helping to create a more natural facial appearance.

Anyone can benefit from treatment with Sculptra, both men and women.

Sculptra can be used in areas of fat loss beneath the surface of the skin that result in sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow eye sockets. It also has great potential for the treatment of prominent skin folds such as those around the mouth, for the treatment of wrinkles and for the correction of facial scars where skin atrophy has occurred.

Sculptra is injected in small amounts using very fine needles. Any discomfort is usually transient but some people may benefit from the use of a local anaesthetic to reduce this. Some treatments, such as those used for plumping out areas of facial fat loss, may require more than one appointment and assessment of effects should take place two weeks after the initial application. Any additional treatment, if necessary, can be arranged over the course of the next weeks. Results are not instant but a gradual improvement will be seen and by 6 weeks the final effects are usually apparent.

Sculptra is reasonably long-lasting. No frequent refresher courses are necessary and most people are happy with this treatment for periods of up to eighteen months or more.

The next step is to book a consultation appointment. For a practitoner offering Sculptra near you go to find a practitoner.
