Isolagen is a unique cell therapy process. The process harvests, isolates and harnesses the power of your own collagen producing cells, called fibroblasts, to strengthen and rebuild your skin. During the natural ageing process, fibroblasts gradual slow down their collagen production in the skin. The Isolagen treatment addresses the cause, and not the consequence, of ageing by introducing millions of your own new fibroblasts. These new cells repair your skin and lay down new collagen and elastin, thus enabling tissue repair.

Isolagen can treat and prevent the signs of ageing, for example wrinkles and lines or scarring, for example from acne or burns.

The cell therapy process begins with a simple and painless procedure which involves taking a tiny sample of skin from behind your ear under local anaesthetic. This sample is sent immediately to a laboratory where it is given a unique barcode ensuring and protecting your identity throughout the entire process. At the laboratory collagen-producing cells or fibroblasts are separated from the rest of the tissue and then stimulated to multiply into new cells. The new cells grow very quickly and after 6 to 10 weeks, they reach a population of tens of millions.

Your first rejuvenating session can be scheduled 6 to 10 weeks after your skin cell sample has been taken. The essential foundation treatment involves 2-3 sessions of injections spaced 30 to 45 days apart for optimal effects. The appointments usually last 30-45 minutes and the treatment should involve no discomfort; a topical anaesthetic cream is used and in sensitive areas (such as around the mouth) a dental block can be used. In some instances, you may experience some transient redness and swelling.

Most patients can return to their normal activities a few hours after this treatment.

Unlike other procedures where injections must be repeated to maintain the benefits, only three repeat treatments are usually required as the cells continue to do their work over years rather than months. Typically, you start to see results 3 months following your foundation treatment. You will experience a steady improvement in skin texture, tone and elasticity as the new fibroblast cells begin to work and produce new collagen and elastin.

Cryogenic storage of cultured cells may also permit future treatments with cells that were harvested when you were younger but at this stage it is not known whether this would represent any benefit.
