How Does Zyderm Work?
Made from bovine collagen and 0.3% lignocaine, Zyderm is administered just below the skin with a very fine needle to limit your discomfort during treatment. It is used for treating fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth to create smoother and firmer skin. The treatment only lasts a few minutes and you will be free to resume your normal daily routine immediately afterwards.
Your practitioner will begin by injecting a small amount into the area to be treated. They will then gently massage the treatment area to ensure that no bumps or uneven areas develop in the skin. Zyderm is the only collagen implant in its class that contains a numbing agent to help you feel more comfortable during treatment.
The collagen contained in Zyderm supports the naturally occurring collagen network in the skin, helping to smooth delicate smile and frown lines.
When Will I See Results?
You will be able to see the results of Zyderm almost immediately after treatment. The beneficial effects last for between 3 and 6 months depending on the degree of correction required, your age and your lifestyle.
The cost of treatment also depends on the area treated and how much is required but the price range on average is between £200 and £400.
Zyderm Safety Considerations
An intradermal skin test is required 4 weeks prior to use to test for collagen sensitivity. 97% of men and women tested can be treated with Zyderm.
Zyderm should not be used on:
- Patients who have failed the required skin test
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- People with hypersensitivity to lignocaine
- People with a tendency to develop hypertrophic scars
Side effects can include swelling, pain, itching or discolouration at the treatment area. Although these are rare, you should report any unusual sensation to your cosmetic practitioner.
