How Aquamid ™ Works
Aquamid is a medical composition of 97.5% sterilized water and 2.5% cross-linked acrylamide polymer. It is used to soften lines, wrinkles and furrows. It can be also be used in the following cases:
- As filling for aging-related hollows around eyes.
- For lip augmentation
- Balance facial features
- Treat depressed scars
- Improve jaw line and cheekbones
Aquamid is homogenous, and it integrates with the body fluid and surrounding tissues.
The results of Aquamid are visible immediately after injection. Clinical studies indicate that these results last for about five years in 90% of the cases. However, the actual results depend upon individual ageing processes and the extent of skin defects being treated.
Aquamid ™: Safety Considerations
Aquamid has been tested clinically, studies indcate that Aquamid:
- Does not migrate from the place of injection
- Does not cause allergic reactions or immunity loss
- Has no calcification or cancerous effects
However, Aquamid treatment may initially cause a mild reaction, related to the injections including pain, redness, swelling and itching. And in more rarely there are other reactions to the treatment, the practitioner can provide more information.
Aquamid should not be used:
- On patients with recurring acne. Outbreaks of acne may cause a reaction.
- On patients with autoimmune disorders.
- During pregnancy or breast feeding.
During the initial phase, Aquamid can be easily removed through a large bore needle. At later stages, it can be removed by minor surgery. It is not possible to remove the hydrogel completely once it has integrated with body fluids. However, aesthetic effects can be altered to a great extent should the patient not want to keep them.
