Aquamid ™
Aquamid ™ is the trade name for a hydrogel-based formulation treatment manufactured by the Danish company Ferrosan. It is used as a soft volume filler which is injected into the skin. It is a permanent filler.
How Aquamid ™ Works
Aquamid is a medical composition of 97.5% sterilized water and 2.5% cross-linked acrylamide polymer. It is injected into the defected skin tissues to cure the effects of ageing and wrinkles. It can also be used in the following cases:- As filling for aging-related hollows around eyes.
- For lip augmentation.
- Cure facial deformities.
- Treat depressed scars.
- Beautify jaw line and cheekbones.
Aquamid is homogenous. It integrates with the body fluid and surrounding tissues. It replaces lost or damaged tissues to enhance the skin texture. Even the absorption of fluid provides a natural look. The results of Aquamid usage are visible in no time after injection. Clinical studies indicate that these results last for about five years in 90% of the cases. However, the actual results depend hugely on individual ageing processes and the extent of skin defects.
Aquamid ™: Safety Considerations
Aquamid is a proven treatment. Clinical studies show that Aquamid:- Does not migrate from the place of injection
- Does not cause allergic reactions or immunity loss
- Has no calcification or cancerous effects
However, Aquamid treatment may initially cause a mild reaction. These can be cured easily with antibiotics. Also, temporary reactions related to the injection may appear and many include pain, redness, oedema and itching.
Aquamid should not be used:
- On patients with recurring acne. Outbreaks of acne may cause a reaction.
- On patients with autoimmune disorders.
- During pregnancy or breast feeding.
During the initial phase, Aquamid can be easily removed through a large bore needle. At later stages, the fluid can be removed by minor surgery. It is not possible to remove the hydrogel completely once it has integrated with body fluids. However, aesthetic effects can be altered to a great extent.
