Jessner's Solution
Jessner's Solution is a chemical combination of lactic acid, salicylic acid, resorcinol and ethanol. With this superficial peel visible, results can be achieved against common skin defects, such as wrinkles, scars, acnes or sun damage.
Jessner's Solution is applied
It is recommended to only use Jessner’s under the supervision of your practitioner, although some authorities encourage untrained people to use it, this should be discouraged on the grounds of safety.
Pre-treatment preparation includes applying Retin-A, also called as Tretinoin, for two to three weeks.
During the treatment Jessner's Solution is applied to the skin using gauze, with repeat coats can be applied for a deeper peel with better results. The solution is not applied on sensitive areas, such as the lips, around the eyes or on inflamed skin. After the prescribed time period, the peel is removed with cold water.
Post treatment care includes preventing sun exposure and the use of high protection sun block for 6 weeks. Some practitioners recommend the application of petroleum jelly on the treated skin for at least four days. Retin-A should not be used n the skin for one week after the treatment.
The next peel can be applied after a period of four weeks from the previous treatment. The peel program differs according to the severity of the problem. Jessner's Solution provides substantial results on any part of the body; however, it is notused on the genitals.
Jessner's Solution: Precautions
The following precautions are necessary while using Jessner's Solution:
- Post treatment one can experience abnormal redness, inflammation or mild irritation.
- Reported side effects include hyper-pigmentation.
- The solution should not be applied to recent sunburns or traumatized skin.
- Pregnant women and breast feeding mothers should not undertake this treatment.
- Individuals on other peels treatment should not use Jessner's Solution.
